6 terms to be learnt.

Hello there,

It is my pleasure to share with you a few terms of technology. The details are as below. Hope it will help our understanding about the term.

1. Information Technology

Information technology is "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." Encompassing the computer and information systems industries, information technology is the capability to electronically input, process, store, output, transmit, and receive data and information, including text, graphics, sound, and video, as well as the ability to control machines of all kinds electronically.

Information technology is comprised of computers, networks, satellite communications, robotics, videotext, cable television, electronic mail ("e-mail"), electronic games, and automated office equipment. The information industry consists of all computer, communications, and electronics-related organizations, including hardware, software, and services. Completing tasks using information technology results in rapid processing and information mobility, as well as improved.

2. Information Communication Technology

Information and communication technology is an umbrella term that covers all technical ways for processing and communicating information. It is most often used to describe digital technologies including methods for communication, as well as techniques for storing and processing information. The term has gained popularity partially due to the convergence of information technology (IT) and telecom technology.

ICT allows users to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technologies.

3. Internet

Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news and opinions. Unlike online services, which are centrally controlled, the Internet is decentralized by design. Each Internet computer, called a host, is independent. Its operators can choose which Internet services to use and which local services to make available to the global Internet community. Remarkably, this anarchy by design works exceedingly well. There are a variety of ways to access the Internet. Most online services, such as America Online, offer access to some Internet services. It is also possible to gain access through a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP).

4. Computer-mediated Communication

Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) is the process by which people create, exchange, and perceive information using networked telecommunications systems (or non-networked computers) that facilitate encoding, transmitting, and decoding messages. Studies of CMC can view this process from a variety of interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives by focusing on some combination of people, technology, processes, or effects. Some of these perspectives include the social, cognitive/psychological, linguistic, cultural, technical, or political aspects; and/or draw on fields such as human communication, rhetoric and composition, media studies, human-computer interaction, journalism, telecommunications, computer science, technical communication, or information studies.

5. Netiquette

Netiquette, or net etiquette, refers to etiquette on the Internet. Good netiquette involves respecting others' privacy and not doing anything online that will annoy or frustrate other people. Three areas where good netiquette is highly stressed are e-mail, online chat, and newsgroups. For example, people that spam other users with unwanted e-mails or flood them with messages have very bad netiquette. You don't want to be one of those people. If you're new to a newsgroup or online chat room, it may help to observe how people communicate with each other before jumping in.

6. Web Browser

Web browser is the application program that serves as the primary method for accessing the World Wide Web, which is one of the major services on the Internet. In order to view a Web site, its address (URL), such as www.computerlanguage.com, is typed into the search box at the top of the browser, and the site's home page is retrieved. The home page includes an index to other pages on the site as well as to pages on other sites, and those pages are retrieved by clicking "links," which are special graphic images or text.
Browsers have numerous features including bookmarks (Favorites) that store the addresses (URLs) of frequently used pages. Tabs are another useful feature that enable multiple Web pages to remain open within the browser.

The most widely used Web browsers are Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE), Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari. All are free, and Firefox and Safari run in both Windows and Mac. There are also other browsers that are less widely known. Google entered the browser arena in 2008 . All browsers offer similar features, no matter which computer they run on. The way users interact with a Web page has more to do with the page than the browser. Web pages contain embedded programs that turn them into applications not much different than the software users install in their own computers.

7. Navigating The web

Web browsers give you the ability to view and browse HTML pages found on the internet or your corporate intranet. Strata provides you with the same tools so that you can access the web and your data in context. This section will look at the tools provided to navigate the web.The most common controls for navigating web pages in Strata are on the Navigation Toolbar. The most important tool for navigating web pages is the URL Bar, also known as the Address Bar or Location Bar. This is the place where you can enter your web pages (e.g., http://www.kirix.com). Enter the web page you wish to go to and then click the Enter button to load the page.

That's all for now. Comments are very welcomed. Good or bad. See you in the next post.

Veron.
